A position or relation that stands over against, or opposite to, something else. There is opposition to raising taxes in this county, for example.
The most common use of the word is when referring to a political party that is not part of the government (HM Opposition or Official Opposition). However, the phrase is also used to describe a team competing against another in a sport event, for example: They are in opposition to this town’s soccer team.
Confrontation is about stating your boundaries and needs in an honest, direct way. It doesn’t always have to be a two-way discussion and, when done well, doesn’t automatically lead to conflict. But, when a person has a strong reaction to your boundary-setting, it’s important to understand that they are reacting to their own pain, insecurities, and conditioning. It’s like throwing a lit match at someone. If they are a block of ice, their reaction will be minimal; if they are a box of fireworks, it could escalate rapidly. This is a tough concept for people to grasp.
